Most people think of rows and columns of data when they think of Excel.
“I know I sho’ did.”
-Cow Brown
In fact, (counts his green)
when many think of Excel, they think of Mark Twain’s saying
“Lies, damned lies, and statistics.”
As user of Excel charting (the lines are chanting for you #crowd-audience), the authors want to make sure that your data –
“DTAB”
does not fall into the “damned lies” category. We want you to be able to tell the story from your data in ways that everyone can understand.
“Storytelling with Data, Huh?”
Let’s take a stroll…

“Me, I’m proud of excel. I ain’t mad at him.”

Bad graphs are everywhere –
I encounter a lot of less-than-stellar visuals in my work (and in my life –once you get a discerning eye for this stuff,
it’s hard to turn it off.
“She no longer loves him. She loves things. Where they do that at?”
-Chuck Rhoades, “That’s What They Be Doin’” March
Nobody sets out to make a bad graph. But it happens. Again and again.
-at every company throughout all industries, and by all types of people.
“She may be dry snitching here.”
It happens in the media. It happens in places where you would expect people to know better.
Why is that?
“Dear writer,
I hope this message reaches you well. I verge on inconsistency, but I presuppose it was you, and not the graph.
Hope this finds you well,
Star Dog

If you use Microsoft for work, you likely want to take full advantage of its features and get your work done as fast and efficiently as possible.
The key to getting your Word work done in the shortest possible time is to harness the power of Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), the programming language built right into Word and the other Microsoft Office applications.
“This is good. All of the charts and graphics you see in microsoft word, now are done with word macros, or excel macros, and they used to have access macros too.”
-Clippy the Great
“These are the automated functions. If you ever wondered how the ribbon functions work, they use macros.”
-IBM Chairman
VBA lets you automate pretty much any action you can take interactively.
“Yes, yes. Give me more.”

Welcome to Excel 2007 Macros Made Easy!
This book was written for everyday Excel users, like yourself, who want to free themselves from the drudgery of repeating the same tasks over and over again.
In this book, you will learn powerful shortcuts and time saving methods for expediting and remembering tasks.
“#task-automation
Unlike other books in this series, it is focused on teaching you just the things you need to know to get up and running with spreadsheet macros quickly and easily.
“We encourage you to keep a little book to store these in.”
You hopefully won’t need to have a degree in programming or to set aside hours and hours for study to be able to get through the lessons in this little and put them to work for you right away.
In fact, you should be able to create your first macro in about a minute.
“For instance?”

You need not be a power user to create and use simple VBA macros. Even casual users can simply turn on Excel’s Macro Recorder.
“Hey, that’s my radio! That’s my radio waves. You stealin’ from me Chuck?”
Recording a macro is like programming a phone number into your cell phone. You first manually dial and save a number.
Then when you want, you can redial those numbers with the touch of a button. Just as with numbers on a cell phone, you can record your actions in Excel while you perform them.
While you record, Excel gets busy in the background, translating your keystrokes and mouse clicks to written VBA code.
“Is this cache or cookies? Next on the Python Scrum Show, featuring Java.
After you’ve recorded a macro, you can play back those actions anytime you wish.
HEADS UP –
You’ll need one of these for powershell.

Not the phone, but the phone shell, the case.

Next Up On “Texas Instruments…”
“you gotta know when to hold em, and know when to fold em. Ya hear?”

First off, you need to know that I’m not prejudice, but you need your CSS, your Cassandras, and your CSS Texts and Fonts, if you plan on sendin’ em a message.
Welcome Folks, to Texas Instruments.

You might well wonder why TeX in Practice is part of the Monographs Visualization series. However, if you really think about typesetting, especially fine typesetting, you soon realize that in large part it is a visual art, as well as a science. TeX’s algorithms produce in almost all cases aesthetic results of the highest quality.
On the other hand, occasionally one may want to insert some additional space before a subscript or superscript, or one may want to adjust the vertical spacing in a fraction.
Fortunately Donald Knuth, the author of TeX allows one to program such corrections easily where needed.

“XML is a markup language.”
“You see that. Does that smell familiar?”
-Dave Chappelle
XML is a markup language that is designed to describe data.
“Note describe data. Language can describe in more than one way. That’s the secret behind TeX, OpenStep, and SmallTalk (Emojis*).”
-Dave Chappelle
It attaches meaning to data in a document by using a meaningful tag name.
“How do you describe data?” Stay tuned.

“Meaningful Tag Name”
A meaningful tag name is one that acts as an identifier, for call back data, attached to a solution explorer, usually attached to a Texas Instrument device. Texas Instruments architected the solution explorer.
“Don’t forget about your peeps out west, ya hear?”
-Paul Clampett, Texas Instrument Manufacturer
I’d like to welcome Lindy Ryan to the stage.

EPUB is an open, industry-standard format for e-books.
However, support for EPUB and its many features varies across reading devices and applications. ‘
Use your device or app settings to customize the presentation to your liking.
Settings that you can customize often include font, font size, single or double column, landscape or portrait mode, and figures that you can click or tap to enlarge.
For additional information about the settings and features on your reading device or app, visit the device manufacturer’s Web site.

Many titles include programming code or configuration examples.
To optimize the presentation of these elements, view the e-book in single-column, landscape mode and adjust the font size to the smallest setting.
In addition to presenting code and configurations in the reflowable text format, we have included images of the code that mimic the presentation found in the print books.’
Therefore, where the reflowable format may compromise the presentation of the code listing, you will see “Click here to view code image” link. Click the link to view the print-fidelity code image.

Foreword
Data visualization is about presenting data in a way to help humans interpret, analyze, learn from it, and most important in a business context, take action on it.
More than just objectively showing a result of data discovery or analysis, visualization can point a user in one direction or another based on the data chosen, the techniques used, and the creators focus.
-Computer Vision, Brooklyn Bridge
This book focuses on the narrative part of data visualization. It is an excellent addition to this series, which has mostly focused on the infrastructure and algorithms of data and analytics.
“So, who are data and analytics?”
We took a long look into the history of Ada, and found out that data was a man name Albert Simpson, and analytics was a woman named Cassandra.
Visual representation is the end result of all that work on the back end, which means this book closes the loop on the overall analytics story. Despite its focus on Tableau as a tool, the concepts and methods discussed throughout are applicable to any data tool, be it Excel, custom visualizations, or other products that give analysts and data scientists the ability to tell a story through data.
“be it Excel –“
“Power to the people,” an audience member yelled.
“–custom visualizations, or other products that give analysts and data scientists the ability to tell a story through data, we must stand with them.”
(marching chants)
“That’s what they be doin’…that’s what they be doin’” (chants continue)

“If you gonna give them the book, give em the whole book, ya hear!”
-Book Boon
